brief set of information and links to advanced transportation
technology and education on intelligent transportation systems.
Alternative Fuels
The Federal Energy Policy Act of 1992 (EPAct) defines an alternative
fuel as any fuel that is substantially non-petroleum and yields
energy security and environ-mental benefits. EPAct recognizes
the following as alternative fuels:
 |
Alcohol
fuels such as methanol (methyl alcohol), denatured ethanol
(ethyl alcohol) and other alcohols, in pure form (called
"neat" alcohols) or in mixtures that contain no less than
70 percent alcohol fuel.
